Trellis Touch

Finally the office is coming together. For those fellow parents out there, you know how TOUGH it is to get anything done with a mobile toddler!

So the other day when the little guy was out, I took the time to get some things done.

Two weeks ago I visited a fabric shop that is closing and the gentleman there was kind enough to give me this gorgeous red trellis fabric for FREE!! I didn’t know my plans for it, but I knew I would use it somewhere.

Once I got started on the office project, I realized that my bookshelf was looking pretty blah. All it took was a little fabric hung on the back and voila!

The next thing was what to do with the same fabric, but in turquoise (this one I bought).

These are two simple projects. One is to glue it to the top of my mousepad. Let’s face it, mousepads are sooo ugly, so this just brightens things up. Sorry the pic is upside down, but you get the idea!

I also bought some inexpensive cork boards and attached the fabric to it. And now my bills don’t look as ugly when pinned up on these pretty things!

Boy oh Boy

Yiiipppeee I”m back on WordPress again!

The little guy is with the hubster today, watching some football, so that means I get the house to myself to….CLEAN!

I know that sounds awfully boring, but so far I am really enjoying getting everything organized without a little baby clinging to my leg.

One of the many things that I need to get to is a drab chest sitting in the garage. I”m thinking of painting it a blue and white mix for the little guy’s soon-to-be room. I know it’s kind of cliche to paint a furniture piece for a boy’s room blue, but I just love this hue.

I would also love to create a rich feature wall with a pattern on it.

And bring in some gold and nectarine accents.

I”m really into this colour combo. What do you think?

White Christmas

Every Christmas, my husband likes to buy a real tree. It’s a big production, since he has to go to the store, pick one out and somehow drag it back home while shedding many, MANY little pine needles all over the carpet. This year that is even more of a hazard since the little guy loves to eat every little tid bit in sight!

So I suggested that next year we get, heaven forbid, a fake tree. Not only that I asked for a white one. And no I”m not talking about these.

I’m talking about the real deal.

Well not really really, since they are fake, but you get the point.

Maybe it is the Canadian in me that longs for a white Christmas in this tropical local. I can’t say I mind looking out of my family room window and seeing a Palm tree. But my reason for the white tree is still decor related. I just think they look really chic and the ornaments pop against the white backdrop.

Maybe I”ll have to pick-up a mini version after Christmas when they go on sale so I can have it up next year!

Bathroom Bling

I have a pretty bland looking bathroom. There’s so much you can do in a bathroom, that I just havn’t yet gotten around to yet!

But today I saw a fabulous idea on TV.

With a little glue, a drill, some pretty knobs and some custom cut glass, you can transform your bathroom cabinets from drab to fab!

Sarah Richardson

Adding mirrors will instantly make the bathroom feel brighter. This is a must-do on my to-do list now!

Here’s some more bathroom beauty ideas. Get some inexpensive floating shelves, but put them up with pretty scroll brackets! Now you have a place to store your little bowls of cotton, make up etc.

Hobby Lobby

The small bathroom downstairs is just so plain right now! I’m thinking of painting it a darker tone and I’m loving the idea of getting a pattern on the ceiling. The only problem is the sore neck I’ll have after working on this project!

Pinterest

If you are really up for a challenge, post up some wallcovering in the small bathroom.

This won’t be an overly expensive project since you won’t need too many rolls.

Another idea is to change the boring mirror you have up to something with more shape and texture.

Pick up a flea market find, give it a coat of paint and pop it on the wall. This is an easy and inexpensive way to glam up the washroom.

Something else to hang up is art. When you are in the loo, it’s nice to have something pretty to stare at, other than yourself!

Dull to Drama

For some reason, my home office is taking me forever to complete. It’s getting there, but I still want to change the curtains and replace the light fixture.

And extra storage is a good thing too. I always see dull looking file cabinets at thrift shops. They are usually selling for cheap, but I never think to buy them since they look so ugly.

Now I’m starting to wonder if I should give them a try afterall.

With a coat of paint, the cabinets can be transformed. And they even topped it with a piece of pretty marble to make the pair seem like an actual piece. Loving this idea!

Pattern Pretty

Last time I went home, my sister and I were suppose to go visit a discount wallcovering store. The previous trip home we made it to the store, only to find out it was closed. As I peered inside the window, I noticed several patterns that caught my attention, with a $20 price tag!!

The ultimate goal is to cover the main wall in our guest bedroom with a pretty wallcovering. And if budget would allow, I would happily start my little project.

Unfortunately for now, a girl can only dream!

Here’s some of the looks I’m liking.

Dreaming…

The Christmas tree is up!

But it never quite feels like the holidays when there is no snow on the ground.

Still this time of year gives me a chance to do some fun decorating with glittery accessories. What kinds of holiday decorating have you done?

Button It

It’s amazing how busy life can get with a baby. By the time you feed, change and play with the little one, and also somehow look after yourself in the process, the whole day is gone!

That explains my lonnnnggg absence from chatting with my Glam at Home followers. So sorry!

I also was away visiting family for the last few weeks.  Toronto is always a fun city to visit and I”m always inspired to get my decor groove on when I’m there!

My sister and I were rummaging through my Mom’s sewing cupboard and came across some old vintage buttons.

These aren’t hers, but I wish they were.  Either way the ones she had were really pretty and luckily she hadn’t thrown them out back in the day when my sister’s and I were encouraging her to get rid of her old stuff.

It’s so fun to experiment with vintage goodies!
