Huh?

Blogging is a bit of an obsession. I could really spend hours hopping from one pretty blog to the next.

My husband can’t seem to understand why I would much rather end my night with a little blogging, than face a pile of dishes and laundry.

Blogging is the one “adult” escape that I have, after a day of feeding, burping, cuddling and changing diapers. I am on mat leave right now so my days just whizz by.

Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Mom, but I also love design and decor.

I’m sure all the Momma bloggers out there would definitely agree that this interest of ours hasn’t been fully understood by our Male counterparts. I have tried to give the comparison of his extreme love for baseball, football, basketball, heck even golf, if it’s sports related, he’s watching it.

Still I get met with a look of blank confusion.

I”m sure many of you can relate.

So for all of you ladies gearing up for a busy weekend of chores, work and of course blogging, I say enjoy!

Tray Glam

I’ve noticed that in these newer homes, builders like to add a lot of bells and whistles to keep buyers interested.

One extra feature is the tray ceiling, which adds some extra height to many rooms.

We have one in our bedroom, which we painted a pretty grey blue colour. It’s all about peaceful calm.

There’s soooo much you can do with tray ceilings.

Come In

I spend A LOT of time inside these days, taking care of the little man and staring at the four walls.

And that means I get a lot of time to think up new ways to spruce up my home. We have only been here for a year, so there are sooo many more projects that I can complete.

There are many blank walls around the house. One in the kitchen (more on that in a later post) and then this bland one in the main entryway.

This is the only pop of colour you see.

There are a few options:

One idea is to bring in a bench or small settee. Not only will this add some pattern and colour, but also provide a much needed spot to put on my shoes!

Pinterest

Let there be light. This will really soften the space and highlight the area.

Young House Love

Along the stairway I was thinking of adding some artwork. Maybe black and white prints.

Young House Love

I”m liking the panels of black and white here. This would definitely go well with the colour scheme at home.

Pinterest

Wallpaper is another option, but a very expensive one!

Tobi Fairley

Paint would be the inexpensive choice. Something rich and warm like this blue.

Pinterest

I think I”ll probably go with paint. So if the hubster can watch the baby for a few hours one weekend then I”ll be able to get this little makover done!

Craigslist Finds

Every now and then I like to look around on Craiglist and come up with ways I could makeover some of these shabby finds.

I love the look of faux bamboo.

Craigslist

All this desk needs is a good coat of glossy black.

Lonny Magazine

This credenza is full blow vintage.

Craigslist

I’m thinking it just needs a jolt of colour.

1st Dibs

This sofa is definitely musty looking.

Craiglist

I would paint the legs a glossy white and upholster it in a fresh mint colour.

Now if only I had a truck/van to get some of these goodies home!

Brass is Class

When my sisters first came to visit my new home, they were kind of surprised to find that I didn’t have too many knick knacks lying around.

They still thought of me as the little girl that liked to collect so called “dust collectors”. Little bits and pieces I had picked up through the years.

In my new home, it was all about clutter free, with the odd sprinkling of accessories.

I especially love brass. I think it goes so well with numerous colours.

This cute little elephant reminds me of my South Asian heritage.

Etsy

I picked up a crane like this at Goodwill for a few bucks.

These owls would look adorable as little bookends in a kiddie room or library.

Neato Vintage

And I just picked up this giraffe for $5 at the local shop. Online it’s selling for $50. I debated getting it, but then thought it would look cute in my office, since I’m going for a black, gold, turquoise and red theme.

Because brass is pretty heavy, you can top it over books or piles of papers.

Mommy Dearest

Sorry for the delay in posting!  The weekend was pretty busy with Mother’s Day events!

No matter how old you get, big or small, you still need your Mom.

Even on my worst days, my Mom knows how to pick me up and make me smile again with her encouraging words or a calming hand on my forehead.

Mother’s Day had a whole new meaning to me today, since I am a new Mom. Now I realize even more, how patient my Mom must have been to raise three daughters and show each one of us how much she cared.

She loves watching her family grow and spending time together.

This isn’t even the whole gang!

Being a Mom is the best feeling in the world and to have such a title fills me with so much gratitude.

So to all the hardworking Moms, I am sending a little love your way for everything you do for us!

Back It Up

I am sitting in my office, looking around wondering what I can do to make things in here just a little more chic.

There’s the Ikea bookshelf.

Ikea

I already styled it with little knick knack finds.

Etsy

But it still needs something more.  I’m thinking some colour in the form of pretty fabric or wallcovering.

Yummy Mummy Club

I picked up a turquoise trellis fabric at Glick Textiles recently.  It’s been sitting in a bag, waiting for a project. I’m thinking this bookshelf might be the perfect place for it. It kinda looks like this.

Simply Divine by Joann

Little pops of red, like these foo dogs, will go so well with the turquoise.

Target

The combo of black, turquoise and red for a glam Chinoiserie look is just what my office needs!

Do you have a room that needs an update? Or a room that you took from frumpy to fab? Send them my way at glamathome@gmail.com

Lucite Loving

Sometimes no colour can add a different dimension to a room, especially if you live in a small space.

Lucite provides seating and storing space, without feeling cluttered. It also gives a sometimes traditional look, a more modern feel.

PS LOVE that Chevron wall. Check out how she did it here.

I really like that paisley wallcovering too. It reminds me of my wedding mendhi.

Oh how I would love to have a lucite desk!! So clean and fresh. The problem is that I have a desktop so there are wayyyy too many wires that would show.

Flower Jars

I see it all the time. Beautiful ginger jars sitting in the resale shops for a steal.

I have picked up a few of them for less than $5 and placed pretty peonies and hydrangeas inside.

With Mother’s Day coming up, surprise your Mom with a beautiful arrangement in an out of the ordinary vase.

Floored

The floor may be the last place you look when you walk into a home. But it can make an impact if done right.

Some of these bathrooms seriously have me drooling!!

This one looks like a chic Parisian retreat with a chevron twist!

Plus the soothing grey blue walls and gold accessories make it so glam.

Another chevron floor. Yes please!
